Grok Image in Photoshop: xAI Cost, Setup, and Edit Limits

xAI offers two Imagine image API models that can feed a Photoshop layer workflow: grok-imagine-image and grok-imagine-image-quality. xAI charges for the output and for every input image used in an edit. At current rates, the Standard model outputs 1K or 2K for $0.020, while the Quality model outputs 1K for $0.050 or 2K for $0.070.

What are the two xAI image models?

The provider model IDs are grok-imagine-image and grok-imagine-image-quality. Grok Standard and Grok Quality are short labels used in this article, not official xAI model IDs.

An output-only comparison understates reference-driven work. For example, a three-input Quality edit at 2K is $0.100, not $0.070. The same three-input edit on Standard is $0.026 at either documented resolution.

xAI’s pricing policy says image and video requests can use Batch processing but remain billed at Standard rates. Its listed Batch discounts apply to selected text and language models, not to image generation.

How many source images can a Grok edit use?

xAI’s multi-image editing guide supports up to three source images in one edit request. That is a total provider input count, not three references plus a separate base image.

Creator MAX exposes two additional references for Grok because the Photoshop selection occupies the first xAI source-image slot. The selected region plus two add-on references uses all three documented inputs. This is a Creator MAX product allocation; another client can allocate xAI’s three inputs differently.

How do you set up the xAI API for Photoshop?

Create an xAI account, create an API key in the xAI Console, configure API billing, and enter the key into a compatible script or panel. Consumer and developer billing need separate attention: the xAI account FAQ says Grok consumer billing and xAI API billing are separate.

The xAI billing guide documents two developer billing paths:

• prepaid credits, deducted as the team uses the API;

What is a practical Grok workflow in Photoshop?

5. Place the chosen result as a new layer and inspect text, edges, hands, product geometry, and small repeated details.
