2. Connect Prepay or Postpay billing to the project.
3. Choose an interface that can send a prompt, selection, or reference image to Gemini.

Input and non-image output are charged separately. Nano Banana 2 and Pro can also create Search-grounding charges. The table is therefore an output-price baseline, not a guaranteed final invoice for every request.

Is Google AI Studio free while the API is paid?

AI Studio can provide free UI access within the account’s current limits, unless a paid API key is linked. The image API itself has no free tier for the current Nano Banana models. Once a paid key is selected in AI Studio, usage for that key is billed.

Manual browser transfer can therefore be useful for evaluation. It is not a published free API quota and its current limits should be checked in the live product.

What about client-data handling?

Under Google’s Additional Terms, Paid Services prompts and responses are not used to improve Google products. Google’s direct abuse-monitoring policy says prompts, context, and outputs can be retained for 55 days for policy enforcement and required disclosures.
